THE MISSION
Play It Forward--an organization that is student-led and student-managed--exists to reduce financial barriers to youth sports participation by creating a simple, dignified system for sharing new and gently used athletic equipment within our school and community.
Our mission is simple: keep kids in the game. We believe athletic participation should never depend on what a family can afford. Whether a student needs cleats for tryouts, a helmet for safety, or a uniform for the season, Play It Forward helps close the gap between wanting to play and being able to participate.
By providing an organized and respectful way for students and families to donate and receive gear, we eliminate unnecessary barriers while strengthening our school culture. We encourage sustainability by extending the life of equipment and reducing waste, and we empower young people to lead through service by making giving back part of what it means to be an athlete.
Because when one athlete is supported, the entire team gets stronger.
THE PROBLEM
Youth sport participation often comes with hidden costs--cleats, shin guards, gloves, pads, helmets--that can prevent students from trying a sport, continuing a season, or returning the following year.
At the same time, perfectly usable equipment is frequently:
- Outgrown
- Used for only one season
- Left unused after a student changes sports
There is currently no centralized, discreet way for students to donate or access this equipment.
THE SOLUTION
Play it Forward establishes a permanent equipment exchange station--a large, clearly labeled donation box--placed within a participating school.
